... here's my latest home project ... remodeling the guest bathroom upstairs ...
... grouted with penetrating sealer ...
... slight setback ...
Before installing cement backer board and tile, I made sure the plumbing was secured to some cross-members installed between the studs. After installing the cement backer board and tile, I found the instructions for the plumbing. There is a plastic face plate that needs to be flush with the wall, but it was sticking out at least an inch or so too far. I would not be able to get the chrome trim ring on flush with the tile wall (it would stick out a ways, since the plumbing was sticking out too far).
Rather than tear the tile and backer board out, I tore out the wall in the closet on the other side of the plumbing. From there I could cut out the cross-members that I had installed to secure the plumbing. Now I can get the plumbing set to the correct depth, but will have to redo the drywall in the closet ... which is alot quicker and easier than replacing cement backer board and tile ...
with access from the back, I was able to cut out the support I had put in for the plumbing, then a new cross-member was put back in at the correct depth. Then removed some tile from around the valve, cut out the opening, cut some tile to fit, and installed the correctly cut tile, applying grout mixed with penetrating sealer a day later. (see how the valve flange is now flush with or a little recessed into the wall)
a day after the grout was complete, I completed the plumbing fixtures so that company could use the tub ... and my wife was happy...
the amazing part was everything worked and nothing leaked !!!
my next project is repairing the closet ...
